About the Library

The Library of the India International Centre was established in 1962. It now houses about 37,000 volumes on social sciences, history, biography, literature and the arts. It has a good reference collection on Indian studies including a special section of about 700 rare books called the “Bilgrami Collection”.The Library also houses two special collections: the “India Collection” owned by the British Council and the “Himalayan Club Library” owned by the Himalayan Club.

The Library has six cubicles which are rented out to members for quiet reading. Photocopying facilities are available on payment. The Members can also avail themselves of the limited inter-library loan facilities.

The Library subscribes to about 160 periodicals and newspapers, both national and international. It also receives a fair number as gifts or in exchange. Of these, the scholarly/academic periodicals are bound annually and preserved for reference.
